Double Deep Pallet Racking - Up to 100% More Storage
Store pallets two-deep from the same aisle to reduce aisles and increase capacity, ideal for bulk SKUs with low rotation.
Unlock up to 50% More Storage with double deep pallet racking systems.
Maximize your warehouse space and streamline operations with Elite Racking's Double Deep Pallet Racking Systems, designed to double your storage density compared to single/selective pallet racking.
Double deep racking systems enable you to store pallets two deep, effectively doubling your storage capacity. This is particularly beneficial for storing large quantities of similar products that require minimal rotation. By placing two racks back-to-back, you can further increase storage capacity to four deep. Double deep pallet racking systems operate on a Last In, First Out (LIFO) basis, making them ideal for non-perishable inventory that doesn't require frequent stock rotation.
This system efficiently utilizes space, with approximately 60% dedicated to storage and 40% to working area.
Where Double Deep Wins
Up to 100% more storage: Two-deep pallet positions reduce aisle count and boost capacity.
Lower cost per pallet position: Better density than selective in the same footprint.
LIFO operation: Best for non-perishables and multiple pallets of the same SKU.
Energy savings in cold stores: Fewer aisles mean less volume to chill.
NZ compliant: Designed and installed to the NZ building code
How It Works
Double deep racking holds a front and rear pallet accessed from one aisle. Forklifts place or retrieve the front pallet first; the rear pallet sits behind it on the same beam level. Runs can be mirrored back-to-back to create four-deep storage with an aisle either side. Expect roughly 60% of your footprint to become storage and 40% working area once aisles are tightened appropriately.
What You’ll Need to Run It Well
Forklifts and aisles
Telescopic forks or a pantograph reach truck are required to access the rear pallet.
We confirm aisle widths, lift heights, and turning for your specific fleet (reach, counterbalance, or VNA).
Inventory profile
Strong fit: bulk SKUs, batch production, seasonal lines, repeat orders.
Not ideal: high SKU variety or strict FIFO; consider selective or shuttle for those cases.
